Art Therapy focuses on the nonverbal language of imagery for healing, growth, and transformation of the individual by connecting the inner world of thoughts, feelings, and perceptions with the outer world of life experiences.  The client may create images with art media such as pencil, marker, paper, paint, and clay, or with miniature figures positioned in a tray of sand (sandplay).  No talent or experience with art is required to benefit from this process, since less experience allows for a more direct expression.  The goal is usually not to create art for display, but for the purpose of communication with one’s inner world.  Adults as well as children may benefit from this modality.
